Yes, this post is going to be all about some birds KatieKat and I found when we were out looking for windmills in dust storm types of shots. No such luck with the dust storms – just blue skies, sunshine and no breeze to pick up the dusty desert… another day. So, making lemonade, as we do, we went exploring and found this great location in the Morongo Valley.
The sign for the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve caught my eye as we were driving so we decided to have a look. There was a big RV with a few people sitting around with their cameras and long lenses. Definitely our kind of place! We parked and made our way over to see if we could wrangle an invite. Turns out it is the park hosts RV and he had set up this amazing bird feeding station and there were TONS of birds for us to get photos of.
So without further ado… here is the result of a very luxurious hour of sitting by an RV where the birds come to you!
Definitely a Goldfinch but I’m not sure if this is an American Goldfinch or a Lesser Goldfinch The same with this fellow I am sure that this is a breeding Female American Goldfinch.
There were hundreds of photos taken of birds that afternoon. I am sparing you the tedium of looking at them all, LOL. It really turned out to be a fun day and we noticed that there are a few hikes in the park so I will likely go back at some point. I will do my best to pull myself away from the birds and explore the area next time.
