Bucket List: Eagle Mean Girls & Learnings

I actually have no idea if these are male or females eagles but I thought they were playing out a ‘Mean Girl’ episode while I was watching these three. (Have you seen my previous posts on the November 2021 Eagle Gathering? Here is Day 1 and Here is Day 2, if you are interested)

The first two eagles were here both days that I passed under this tree. When I had stopped to take more pics on Day 2 the third girl tried to join with the others and was abruptly sent on her way! I was inspired by this mean girl story based on a book I am reading right now so excuse my narrative

Mags is sitting in her favoured place in her perfectly placed tree. She surveys the scene and gives Freya her wise advise, “Never, never let any of the other girls on our branches on their first try Freya. I’m counting on you to enforce our code of friendship. I mean, really, I’m sorry, but you know how popular we are. We have to be so selective of who we talk to!”
On Wednesday we all wear PINK! And those who don’t can come and talk with me.
“Heya Freya… Mags. Can I hang with you guys today?
NO! GIT!! GO!!!
“That’s right!”
“And don’t come back, unless you have salmon salad, wrapped up nice and pretty”

This was such a fun day and truly a learning experience for me. Here are a few take aways for me:

  • When planning make sure that you have as much time as possible. If it’s an important project try not to tack it on to another trip. Make the trip specific to the project.
  • Hire a tour guide if possible who can give you angles and positions that you cannot achieve on your own.
  • Research research research. This is not new to any of us photographers but what I think that this trip ended up being for me was that it turned out to be more research in preparation for another year.

  1. Thank you for the trio of posts – nicely done. I learned the lesson about time last year, and it is so very true. Putting a time box around capturing images doesn’t work for me. It is a little surprising how much time is spent researching isn’t it? Cheers
