Our first nights in the Yukon were at a lovely cabin resort just outside of Whitehorse. Sundog Retreat was a perfect introduction for our group as the Yukon welcomed us with an amazing first night of dancing with the stars. My roomies and I were lucky to be assigned the Cranberry Cabin. It is the one featured on the Sun Dog’s opening page (at least at this point in time). Neil invited all of the group to meet on our deck for an evening that was predicted to be outstanding.
They say that the Yukon is where the Northern Lights and Happiness meet and they are not wrong in that! Our first night, no less, was spectacular and we were lucky to be there with an expert on night photography. Neil Zeller was our guide, driver, guru, and coach on this trip. If you are at all interested in photography I encourage you to check out his available workshops.
And we danced, all night long!
The night began with a lively Jitterbug. We were hoppin’ and boppin’ and groovin’ and movin’ to the beat of the skies right from the very start.
We followed that Jitterbug with a frenzied Tango that got our spirits firing on all cylinders. We moved our (camera) bodies to the groove of the music and felt the heat and allure of Aurora. She is sexy, she is spirited and she is bewitching.
We threw our heads back and pointed our cameras straight up for a unique angle and learned that sometimes you just need to change your perspective to see things in a different way. This Tango got our blood pumping and our imaginations ready for a night of passion.
After all the swinging and swaying, the Sambas and Fox Trots, we settled down to the embrace of a slow dance. Soft and gentle, tender and smooth. This could last all night for all I cared.
But it was not meant to be and all good things do end. Mostly because I got tired and heard my bed calling. This actually wasn’t the end of the evening’s show. Some stayed up much later and watched as Steve showed up in all his glory. You can read about Steve here if you like. One day, maybe this winter, I will be up and photographing the night skies when he comes calling again.
I hope you enjoyed this little trip to the dance hall with me. I’m not sure if this is what they meant by the night sky dancing with Aurora but I thought I had to put it out there.
