I Feel A Little Obsession Coming On

I was out with Kim last week and we bagged our first Snowy Owl – or so I thought. Nope, got home and nothing was on my memory card. And suddenly I’m obsessed… I need to get that beautiful in camera. Two more times I went out. I’m happy to get out of town anyway but by the end of day 3 I started to think that it just wasn’t going to happen. Sadly, I take one more country road and THERE SHE IS!!

I think birding is a bit like golf. Just when you think you’re going to give up it happens. It might be only a few good drives, or possibly a birdie – one kind or the other (haha, see what I did there!) and suddenly you’re hooked again!

Now I have to admit, if I had actually gotten the shots when Kim and I were out I would have had about 500 shots to choose from. Today was a quickie…. Holy S#*t, slam on the brakes, hop out of the car, take about 23 shots and off she goes. I thought I would be able to follow her but alas, she went along the train line and not a road in sight. So this is what I have. The ones of her sitting on the fence line turned out pretty good but I’m afraid that all the action shots are out of focus. I’m posting anyway as I loved her and am so thrilled that I got some pics!!

And without further ado here she is in all her beauty.

I think she’s smiling at me…
I thought she was about to take off but in fact, she was letting me know what she thought of me. I have chosen not to post those pics.
The sun is shining so pretty through her wings. I just wish I had gotten this a bit more in focus… and the next ones.
I followed her along the fence line and then across the field
And she gave me one last look to make sure I was not following her.

I am beyond thrilled to get this lovely lady and hope I get more this winter. I’m around for another month and expect the snowy owls will be heading back to the Tundra by the time I get back.
