Road trips make it easy to do bird watching and switching between lenses easy, especially when you have an amazing assistant to run and/or help (read, husband) and because, if you keep your lens bag handy, they are all right there! So, coastal pictures one minute and then birds the next! I am so lucky to have my sherpa with me, helping me find, change and repack lenses as I switch hats.
We ran across a lot of birds along the coast of Oregon and California. Big beautiful birds as well as little beauties. By no means is this the entire compilation of what we saw (tons and tons) and what I photographed (tons). I missed many and I’m still kicking myself when I got cocky and said, “No, not taking my camera… this is a walk today, not birding.” And there along the boardwalk in Monterey, on the rocks, right below us, within 20 feet was the most beautiful Pelican I had ever seen. SO CLOSE and the gear was SO FAR.
I went back but alas, it was not meant to be. I did get some from a very far distance with my big lens though. Below, are some of the birds we saw. I done my best attempt at identifying them but if you know better let me know. I don’t mind.
Well, it ‘s been almost two weeks that I have been sitting on the last two posts and need to get them published so that is all I am going to make you look at. Although there were many more birds, some I got good pictures of, some not so good, for now this is all I have actually processed. I hope you enjoyed my West Coast Birding Adventure.
You’re getting pretty good at that bird thang!! Both the shots and the identification!
Oh! Thanks so much Kim, still lots of room for improvement but I do believe I am making strides.
